We didn't know that at first, but it's becoming evident now. Growing conditions here are ideally suited to pinot noir. I came to viticulture from a farming background, which included a fair amount of horticulture experience. I apply the cropping knowledge that I've acquired over the years, because the same challenges apply - pests, disease, climate. In Zimbabwe - where I come from - arid, hot conditions are normal. That experience has really helped me here in Central Otago. I've got a great core crew in Bendigo and we're vigilant. In a harsh environment like this, you've got to stay on top of the situation - every day, every season." |
